Search for the full title, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle. Its contents begin with A Scandal in Bohemia and end with The Adventure of the Copper Beeches. A result labelled “Complete Sherlock Holmes” or The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a different collection.

The Gutenberg record also points to an improved text edition, #48320, and an audio edition, #9551. Those are separate downloads. For audio, read the recording’s own terms: an old underlying story does not make every recording unrestricted. Listen for how easily you can follow Watson’s narration and the exchanges with clients. A clue may be a name, an address or a short phrase. If the voice mispronounces something, look at the text rather than guessing from the audio. A sample is useful, but it does not establish pronunciation quality throughout all twelve stories.

Reading in the printed order is a simple starting point, but these are separate cases rather than chapters of one mystery. If you already know the opening story, choose another from the contents. Avoid plot summaries if you want to preserve the solution.
