What is Meditations about?
The most powerful man in the world kept a private notebook, never meant for publication, in which he coached himself to be patient, honest, unafraid of death, and unimpressed by fame. Marcus Aurelius wrote these reflections in army camps on the Danube frontier while running an empire through plague and war, which is why, two thousand years later, they still read like advice from someone who has actually had a hard week.
Meditations has no plot and needs none. It's a book you drop into anywhere, a few entries at a time. As a listen it works like a companion, giving you short Stoic reminders about controlling what you can and releasing what you can't, delivered on a walk or a commute exactly when they are useful. Few books this old feel this current.
How long is Meditations as an audiobook?
At roughly 70,900 words, Meditations runs about 8 hours at 1x narration speed. That figure is an estimate based on a typical narration pace. The exact length depends on the voice and the playback speed you choose.
